Promised legal update

So earlier I promised to make regular local legal updates. Turns out I'm some combination of busy and slackass. But here goes: The aforementioned big products liability wrongful death trial in State Court has begun this week with jury selection wrapping up today. Persons of note remaining in the jury panel currently: Professors Appel and Gabriel from the law school, and Commissioner David Lynn. Professors Carlson and Ellington were also in attendance as onlookers yesterday.

We'll be following this trial and giving updates.

What's the product at issue?

Two:

1) A 1985 Mercury Marquis and
2) The Draw-Tite trailer hitch attached to the bumper of said Marquis.

BTW, Commissioner Lynn is on the jury, which has now been selected.

Just out of curiousity, is it normal to disclose the names of jurors on an ongoing trial?

Don't know either way, but the trial is public, and anyone can walk in the courtroom and recognize that David Lynn is in the jury box (you know, if they knew who he was and all), so yeah, it's probably legal.

David Lynn will be a great juror, because he's had three years of practice sitting quietly for long periods of time, as an ACC Commissioner. Seriously, does this guy ever talk?

DiDDY, I'd appreciate a daily David Lynn bow tie update.

The jurors names are a matter of public record as soon as they are selected; in fact, they are selected in open court.

And for the record, Commish Lynn is not currently wearing a bow or any other kind of tie.

Plaintiff and Ford have finished their opening statements, and Draw-Tite and the individual defendant, Burns (the individual who struck the Marquis in question before it blew up) will now give theirs.

More later.

Is Plaintiff represented by Butler, Wooten? Someone local?

Yes, in fact, it is Butler Wooten (specifically Mr. Butler himself along with George Fryhofer and some other underlings).

So the bowtie is just for Commission meetings? i.e., It's his uniform? Hot!

Well, hoo-wee. If Jim Butler is here, it IS big time.

Can anyone give an update on the trial?
