Kathy Hoard takes a stand

Y'know, it seems like just about every Commissioner can be identified with on major issue. Carl Jordan is the "I hate light" Commissioner. Elton Dodson is the "I hate smoking" Commissioner. David Lynn is the one who never says anything. Tom Chasteen is the "I desperately need political cover on everything, so I won't piss people off in my mayoral campaign" Commissioner. And so on.

So now, is Kathy Hoard the animal cruelty Commissioner? We're not being snarky here. It's good to see her out there taking a stand, and we're pretty sure that this happens far more frequently than folks admit here in ACC. Good on her!

She writes about it here.

And, oh yeah. If you beat your animals, you're a douchebag. No ifs ands or buts. And you should go to jail, where a large man named Tony will make you into his bitch.

You got pretty close to the heart of the matter on this one. Chasteen has never championed any issue; never offered any of the "creative solutions" that he is now promising; never showed leadership on anything at all; and is widely held to be a close second to Harry Sims in the running for the Laziest, Most Useless Commissioner of the Last Decade Award. What an empty suit!

Tom is worrying too much about his mayoral race. He's going to have to piss some folks off, it's why politicians have constituencies, and it's a fact of life. If you try to be all things to all people, you're just going to end up being, as you said, an empty suit. (c.f. John Barrow)
