Hobnoblin'

From the Chamber's website:

It's popcorn, lemonade, peanuts and politics at the the bi-annual HOB NOB, Old-Fashioned Political Rally Wednesday, October 4th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. Hear stump speeches from ACC Mayor and Commission candidates, State House and Senate Candidates and statewide candidates all in one big event.

Also, there is of course the mayoral debate on the east side mentioned in the comments.

Finally, kudos to Elton for dropping in and sharing a piece of his mind. No matter what you may think of him or the words he chooses to use to describe certain commission candidates, I think it's always positive when the candidates and officeholders choose to engage the public in general and us in particular. Heck, the guy even put his cell # out there. More guts than me.

Go and do likewise, gents.

What is the point in this? I could have told you who they were going to endorse on qualifying day. Every Republican with the exception of E.H. Culpepper. Of course if you are one of those people that thinks that Culpepper is Republican, that's not an exception. Non-partisan: Charlie Maddox & James Garland.

They will also endorse the popular vote of you to be forever deemed dumbass. Put your head back in the sand.

What if they gave a Hobnob and nobody came?

According to reports from several friends on campaigns and the media, nobody came. Their best estimate was about 12 people who weren't either campaign staff or media and those seemed to be Chamber folks who got talked into showing up so that somebody would be there. It was a bust by all accounts.

Heidi didn't bother going and that seems, in retrospect, a good decision because there were really no undecided votes in the room.

I went to the Grow Green thing and there were more civilians but not any undecided voters there, either. It was all about Heidi and Kelly Girtz. The crowd was probably bigger, though and they laughed out loud when Alvin Sheats was mentioned.

I went to the Hob Nob and it was pretty lame. Nobody was there but candidates. Waste of my time.
