Housekeeping, bitches

Unexplained absence:
Will remain unexplained. Poverty post continues to spark debate, as will, hopefully, the new post on immigration.

Writers Wanted:
Want to write for AthPo? Here’s the deal. Both members of your crack editorial staff will soon be undergoing some major life and career changes, which may hamper our ability to blog regularly. You might have noticed the aforementioned unexplained absence. So, if you’ve got something to say, let us know. We need some folks to fill space for us.

New Linky Linky:
To the right, bitches. Might as Well...Politics is new to us, but Russ gets it. Classic City Moonbat is new and liberal. Enjoy. Also, we hyped it up once already, but if you’re not reading the Daily Douchebag, then you’re out of the loop.

Iron Balls:
We love JMac. He’s one of the smartest, best-intentioned, most reasonable people we know, and we note with amusement that Hillary, on the same day, compares him to Barack Obama (we sort of agree), and bestows a fine nickname upon our friend.

Rumors Abound:
Jim Ponsoldt for State Senate? Sources tell us that he’s been approached a few times recently about running against Ralph Hudgens. Go Jim go! A new PAC may be forming up in Athens – democratic, natch. Word has it that money is being raised.

The Quiet Before the Storm:
Damn this suddenly quiet mayor’s race! Anyone hearing anything about this lately?

For clarity's sake ... it's a reference to The Jerk, which is a fine film starring Steve Martin. Apparently Navin (Martin's character) is signing checks and addresses one to that particular gentleman.

Not as funny as ...

'It's these cans! He hates these cans!'

Still, thanks for the kind words.

Okay, here's a hot tip: Mac Rawson, who is the Chair-elect of the CCDC is also considering the run against Hudgens. He's way more moderate than Jim... I ran Jim's runoff campaign against Tom Chasteen 4 years ago, and will be loyal to and busting my gut for Jim if he gets into it.

And yes, there's a new PAC in Athens, it's called the North Georgia Democrats, and is located at www.northgeorgiademocrats.org... There's a regional event calendar there, lot's of cool links, meeting information, etc.

Sorry to post the link w/out permission, I'm not sure of the etiquette here... folks can sign up for the weekly newsletter, comes out on Monday mornings, at the ngdem site. Or read the archives online. We are going to be doing exactly what we did for the Clarke County Democratic Committee, only for several counties. Expanding, basically, get out the vote (which did a great job here last cycle) into North Georgia! We've got a distribution list of over 1500 emails, and double that number of folks to whom we will be snail mailing for support. Come join the effort! First Mondays of the month at 6 at Earthfare.

AND there's a non-profit, non-partisan project designed to target and increase absentee balloting and early voting amongst low income and minority voters. It's called Write to Vote, and has just become a fiscal sponsee of Common Ground Athens. We meet Monday the 20th at Common Ground at 6. Website in progress... kick-off on May Day, location TBA.

I saw one of Andy's stickers on the back of Dan's car the other day. Aside from being kind of yuppie-derivative, it was remarkably unoffensive. Not a #$$#@% or a *%$#$# in sight.
